Isn't it funny that almost 30 years later they made the same thing again

A futuristic luxury car with alien tech that slammed every record : 918

A striped down raw super car with screaming 9.25k+ rpm v12 that make a grown man cry: la ferrari

History repeats itself again after all these years

Typical Porsche, combines sport, comfort and Luxus, still wins a drag race with less power to a cheap made rari.

The debate about these two on a dry road track can last forever – but add rain, gravel, sand and mud, and the discussion will end quite fast and clear. The moment this comparison ends, another shootout between the 959 and a Delta S4, Quattro S1 or 205 Turbo 16 would be interesting, while the F40 might compete with other track race cars of similar power/weight ratio.

btw – before the F40 came out, the comparison was between the 959 or Ruf 911 and the the GTO 288, and some years before with Countach vs 512 BBi vs the early 911 turbo or 928.

Did anything change? Not really. The comments and arguments were more or less the same.
But nonetheless, the impact and advance that came with the 959 was unmatched – it was an 911 evolution and a revolution at the same time, while Ferrari more or less re-engineered the GTO, which was the bigger step after the 512 BBi / Testarossa.

In all honesty, for as much as I'm a Porsche estimator, you can't quite compare it to the F40. In fact, it can be compared to very little else. The 959 is great and I'm sure it was brilliant when it was launched, but it looked like yet another Porsche. Nothing else even remotely looks or sounds like an F40. To me it's not only the best supercar of the 1980s, it's also the best Ferrari ever made.
P.S. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson himself, the F40 is "the best thing ever made."

Most people, including many car enthusiasts, don’t realize how advanced the 959 was in a day. And unfortunately, time does no favours to technology, in terms of how it ages. I think that’s the main reason why the F40 is more sought after, and probably why Porsche chose to take the path they did with the Carrera GT, compared to what Ferrari did with the Enzo. I think this comparison would’ve been more interesting if they had used the 959 sport, with as much as 520 hp, which is what auto motor und sport used when they tested it against its competitors in the Nardo track in Italy, where it exceeded 200 mph, whereas the F40 that was running on the same day was not able to.

    81 carrera <3

  • heart vs brain 🙂 the germans could do a faster car, but i would go with the ferrari.

anyway, both are great, i remember to a magazine, when tested them in the 80s. like the spaceships compared to the "average" sport cars.

F40 is the pure definition of what a sport car is all about. The. Other one is a 911 with body kit.

The Lamborghini Miura was the first supercar, the 959 the first hypercar, but the F40 is the one, given the choice that serious car collectors want or a McLaren F1.

So Hammond is a Porsche fan but betrayed it to be in the other car he thought is more likely to win hte drag race. That is so pathetic and so satisfying that he lost.
