i'm wondering how long the extraordinary good looks of a ferrari modena in red/tan would take to diminish to the point where i preferred to own the cayman because, if forced to, i'll admit to more than a little superficiality where cars are concerned.

My friend bought himself a 360 Modena and I have driven it now as a drive and pasaanger a few hundred KMs… and yeah there is not doubt the Porsche would be a less of a hassle. More a daily drivable car. But the looks and the feel, especialy the sound when you floor the pedal on the Ferrari is an amazng feeling. It is just a sidecar and most certainly not for every day. Its noisy, its harsh, its rude and brutal. And after a hour riding it you get tired of the intese steering control and the noise and the bumps and all that. But if you get in it. You feel like you are actually driving a supercar.. yeah 20 year old super car. But the looks of this one is timeless. Owing a good daily car and buying a car for fun and pleasure. You cannot beat a now cheap Ferrari 360 Modena. I like it a lot.

As a porsche fan, I can still say the ferrari looks more sexy than the Cayman.

How about now when you can get an 2008 cayman for 22k or the Ferrari is still 80k.

Dude is right!!! That Ferrari is WAY better looking than the Porsche. Further, the price is right on the 360. And when you buy it, you KNOW you have to invest in it.

I think the cayman looks better and id actually take the cayman over the ferrari. Doug is an idiot, for example, "powered by carpet"?… idiot.

Doug: With the Ferrari you can see the engine through the glass! How cool is that?!
Me: Just as cool as you shirt, Doug!

Love your reviews, man! Best in the biz…

    981s all day,

Also your ownership costs are so off – Porsche is way easier to run

Well, the depreciation aspect 6 years later brings the Cayman to an undeniable victory in this comparison. You can get a Cayman GTS variant with 25K miles for under 43.000$, and will definitely have less mechanical problems than a close to 20 year-old Ferrari, and the cayman is going to be faster as well and basically better in every aspect. Cool factor is also a bit different, because the GTS version has carbon diffusers on the front and back of the car, but still the Ferrari is flashier than the Porsche just because the non-car person will recognize it easier due to the Ferrari badge.
