You would have to be a pretty bad snow flake to take offense from a number plate that has been proved to be random, James traced this back to the initial registration. It was the plate that was on the car when it was originally bought.

It's obvious whoever started the absurdity of the number plates was an opportunist who was looking to further a political agenda.

Anyone have issues with May's car: N269 KNG – looks like a biblical number no? Well Kings chapter 9 verse 26 is about the only naval reference in the bible – " 26 King Solomon built a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom."

I'd love to know if the interviewer actually watched the episode and instantly came to the conclusion "OH MY GOD THAT NUMBER-PLATE, I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!". Because he sounds like he'd spotted it instantly.

Because if he did not, then he is just a hypocrite social media victim, who'd probably bought those "Penis enlargement pills" you see in ads on Pornhub, because "it is on the internet, so it must be true"

A porsche 928 has the number 982 on it… what could it mean… hmmmmmm… let me think, a 982 on a porsche 928…. maybe if i swap…. naaaah, it must be linked to some kind of war. If you go with that logic, why would you call your channel "absolute radio". Is it because you are propagating "absolute" nonsense, yes it must be that, there is no other way!

  • "No, it's not 13 million : 1, it's 2 : 1."

Not to mention, Porsche only ever produced 60 000 928s worldwide. 😂 Someone in that room did not think that through at all.

    Publicity stunt?
The only publicity stunt in all this sorry affair is the one carried out by General Galtieri when he invaded the Falkland Islands to quell public dissent over the military junta in Argentina.
The one that led to the disappearance of over 30,000 people & the torture of thousands.

Whilst I agree with James [and you'd think there'd be a financial trail to find if they did re-register the cars – remember, always follow the money] the only thing I can think of as to why people really believe this, other than they're be told about it is that it has cropped up before but with no fuss made about it. There was an episode they did with three old cars and each other their plates were anagrams, especially Jeremy's:

Those eye twitching is only reserved for when Hammond or Clarkson do something moronic and James is left baffled by their stupid.

This interview has that same energy about it.

James May is absolutely right. You can find patterns in almost anything, and once pointed out, it often seems to be more than just coincidence. I'm sure there could have been thousands of different number sequences that could be linked to the Falklands war or to any other historical event.

  • Darth KEK
    November 18, 2020

He's right, the numberplate was a coincindence.

I did laugh when he called the slope on the bridge the slope on the bridge though.

Lots of comments about James not being listened to or just being ignored. The truth is the plate was deliberate, they are right and James is pointlessly talking down to the whole audience by denying it.

This just randomly popped in my YouTube feed. I'm intelligent, can think abstractly, good problem solver etc. I had to wait until further into the video to see what the problem was while reading the comments. My conclusion – bag of shite. The so called interviewer is an idiot.

Those who have lived in Argentina will understand that it doesn't take much to whip Argentines up into a frenzy, and that they will happily imagine things and draw long connections to justify their fury – from the Falklands war to their luggage coming out too slowly on the conveyor belt.

This guy just said, "as men we make letters out of license plates" lolol license plates have letters on them what's their point? How useless

  • Julian Rodriguez Lop
    November 19, 2020

    So, it’s a coincidence?
1 car: h982flk, the number of the war and falklands
2 car: n269kng, 269 Soldiers of the kingdom died
3 car: 646 ek, yes, empire killed 646 argentine soldiers

    Literally: 0.02 in 500 millions

3 cars, 3 numbers of the war, 3 pair of letters of the war driven by British guys with black humour and provocative reputation
They couldn’t fake the plates. But they could choose the cars on purpose
Come on, a Porsche 9 series, a lotus espírit and a mustang Mach 1? Yeah.

i read somewhere that argentine secret services had put a plan into action 6 days before the team got there to stir up some fuss when topgear got there. topgear used to be an easy target for political means as they had 300 million viewers and were just a tv show

  • Jay
    November 20, 2020

I love Top Gear and I’m their number 1 fan, but only a moron would think that number plate was unintentional. Knowing Top Gear’s history of talking about past wars and politics, e.g. the Vietnam war in the Vietnam special, referring to the Falkland wars isn’t a far stretch. Especially considering how patriotic Clarkson is, there was no way he would’ve have mentioned that the Falklands belong to the British.
