Here's Why the Maybach 57S Has Lost $300,000 in Value Over 10 Years

The Maybach 57S was the ultimate luxury sedan of the mid-2000s — but it has lost $300,000 in value over the last decade. Today, I’m reviewing a 2006 Maybach 57S to find out exactly what made the Maybach worth $370,000 back then — and I’m going to find out all the weird quirks and cool features of the Maybach 57S.

I'll take my 2020 Genesis G90 5.0 AWD Ultimate and leave the extra $230,000 in my retirement account. Oh wait – that was the cost new, so now this 14 year old car ONLY costs $4,000 more than my brand new Genesis. But gee you do have that fancy MM badge and the cool 57S on the side. Oh wait – that was three years ago so what is it worth now? $50,.000?

The running costs for this would be astronomical. For example, a new alternator is a cool $16,000. You needed to be rich to buy one, and, unfortunately, you still do.

Hey Doug, the silver plate you took out of the champagne holder in the back seats is to be put below the chilled champagne bottle on the carpet floor. There is a magnet hidden under the carpet that ensures it’s perfectly placed and remains that way. Then the condensate of your bottles exterior has a silver plate to drip onto instead of making the rug soggy. THAT is attention to detail indeed.

Leave it to the Germans to name a car after it's length (5.7 metres/22.5') and put 2 calipers on each front brake rotor to stop 6,000 lbs. One would hope&pray that for over $300k it as reliable as a Lexus unlike it M.B. cousin! There is a 2004 Maybach 62 with 999,999+ kilometers out there but that as rare as an albino unicorn…

We’re I a thrifty recent lotto winner or something I’d pick this thing up in a hot second at that price. This really is like Rolls Royce luxury at a Lexus price point. Great for those with champagne taste and beer pockets.
