Volvo XC40 SUV 2019 in-depth review | carwow Reviews

This is the Volvo XC40. Unlike most manufacturers, Volvo has gone with a fresh and different design for their latest small SUV, rather than simply making a more compact version of the XC60. But with the small SUV market being so saturated, can the XC40 hold its own against so much competition? Join Mat as he finds out in his latest in-depth review!

I love the boxy shape. Much better fitting for SUVs than these coupe-shapes that become more and more.

Mat, now Volvo are in MY21 manufacturing, a new review would be helpful. The cost cutting on the new model is unbelievable.
    – No twin exhausts now. Now hidden exhausts.
    – Gearshift paddles are removed from R Design
    – Close button and lock button on tailgate. Gone.
    – Button to lower rear seats in boot. Gone
    – No trim emboss on C Pillar, headrests or kick plates
    – 112mph limiter for all models
    – Only one main key provided now plus a ‘care key’ which cannot be programmed.

I’ve just ordered an Inscription Pro and the salesman did not mention any of this. I’m thinking of cancelling now. If this level of cost reduction is visible, how much more could there be NOT visible?
How often do car manufacturers make cars worse? That’s progress in the 21st century for you.

This is the car I would definitely consider over the German rivals. It is a nice and a decent looking car indeed, just as well as the interior.

This is nice vehicle on the skin of it and a big bonus is having electrically headed Front Windscreen on Volvo's and Ford's, but funnily I'd always though with its long bonnet it looks awfully short overall' inc its wheelbase, but after checking it against (2020) Tiguan R-Line Tech @ 4486mm long.
The XC40 is only 61mm shorter length at 4425mm, but has longer wheelbase by 25mm, 24mm wider track & only 1mm less in height !
Unfortunately for Volvo I still fancy a 2021 (facelift) Tiguan R-Line Tech, as it still has more boot space and comes with more tech (ACC, Panoramic Sunroof 360 camera & reversing camera sensors front & rear) for still less price than a basic equivalent (B4P) XC40 R-Design Pro, and as were in 21st Century Volvo want £200 for wireless phone charging, but then have the Gaul of charging £300 as an option for Apple Car Play & Android Auto' with 1 extra USB port….

Given Volvo's safety ethos, it is surprising that there is no swivel wheel control in addition to (or instead of) the touchscreen. Mazda had the best compromise in their previous 3: the touchscreen worked when stationary or up to 15 mph, faster than that and only the swivel wheel would operate. Much safer. Most reviewers (including Matt) prefer the swivel wheel, so it's not just for old fogies.
