I bet most people demanding that US raise the speed limits will not pass a German driving test.

The weak, whiny environmentalists and weak, whiny snowflakes want to limit driving and so everybody bikes everywhere and even in snowy and cold climates. They also want the government to control everything. Then you have pedestrians who think they're entitled and trot out the tired and wrong and self serving catch all "It's for the children" argument. Teach the brats how to cross the street properly. Call me whatever you want, I am not for my freedoms to be trampled upon including how I want to get to point A to point B.

Speed limits don't matter. I've seen most of the stupid driving done way below the limit. In town or the city where pedestrians are also a hazard. Besides, the German accidemt rate is lower than the US so this kind of disproves the claim that speed kills.

This is just another attempt to limit the fun of driving so they can take away yet more of our freedoms (with autonomous driving they'll not only know our every move but be able to control it as well).

Give us the German driving license process, fine. People will complain but driving carries great responsibility. Once people have achieved a better standard of driving you can then increase speed limits and make driving even more beneficial. Without private vehicles the economy would come to a halt. But when have socialists ever cared about the economy…

People are too distracted behind the wheel. People are too distracted behind the wheel. And I can keep saying it. I use to work with someone who lived in Germany for 3 years because their father was active duty there and they told me getting a drivers license is so hard to, people often give up and stick to public transportation. States will literally give ANYONE a drivers license here. Americans aren't punished for poor behavior on the road. Our cars would be a lot different today, if people put the phones down, paying attention to what they were doing, and drove in the correct lanes. Germany has a STRICT law against driving in the left lane. But if you notice, they do not have signs or police, monitoring the behavior and that because they are taught what to do and it's a felony if they break the laws. I agree with him when he says it's like getting your master degree over there but it's about discipline. And technically we do have the same highway laws at the autobahn, just not one follows it and it's not enforced.

I live in Delaware, and people don't know their right from their left, it drives me crazy and it's very annoying. I grew up in Jersey where if you hogged the left lane, you would have police on your ass in 5 minutes. I vacationed down in FL, and the highway speed is 70, and people were doing almost 90, and cops didn't care because everyone shared the road and got out of the way. Poor judgment and arrogance are what makes driving dangerous.

speed kills…doubling your speed quadruples the energy during an impact…notice airplanes travel that fast on bags full of air all the time (tires) but when they go over 100 mph they either take off or slow way down as fast as possible

Like my '03 Ford Taurus Sport. Duratec sounds nice, and she's got more in her. but speed limiter cuts me back at around 110 MPH. (Mind you this was on an empty, straight road as when I have fun with my cars I don't want to put anyone else at risk.)

My 2001 Volvo V70, well, I feel like it could do faster, but it's neglect and abuse from the previous owner has it in not the best condition to do that, so I don't try it.

The cops make about $7.5 billion each year on speeding tickets in the USA. I don’t think the government is willing to give that up in the name of safety. Think about all the emissions caused by cars stopping to pay tolls….we worry about cow farts and hear nothing about removing toll booths.

I don't think there should be any sort of speed limiters on a vehicle, especially so low as 80-120 MPH. As an extremely paranoid person, you will never know when being able to quickly accelerate + move at high speeds may save your life. Already saved me once.

Thing is, the proportion of traffic fatalities from speeding is quite low, so even if all speeding is eliminated, it will only put a small dent in traffic safety.

Speed limits need to catch up to current car technology. We should not be stuck on the 1973! Also the roads are not designed for a particular speed limit across the country, for example the 405 in CAlifornia, people get upset with you if you go under 80. I drove through Utah and Idaho where I can see the road aheads for about 10 to 20 miles, and there is nothing there but completely empty land as far as you can see, why is there a speed limit there?! In addition we should not adjust to the lowest common denominator, but the other way around, what I mean is we should not all drive slow, because it is easy to get a drivers licence here, vs. Germany, nor because the other driver is not expecting XY and Z. Instead make the requirements for driving beter, and allow for a left lane with higher limits, you don't like it? then don't go there. We need solid solutions not excuses as to why.
As someone who has personally been to Germany the driving there is so much safer, and carefree.

It's because grandma Joan is driving on the same highway as Vin diesel and she sure doesn't understand why this bald headed maniac needs to pass her when she is going just 10km/hr below the speed limit. Different people are at different skill levels in driving and that's why we need to abide by the limits so we don't end up hurting ourselves and others. The traffic is also caused by the drivers with lack of skills or confidence whatever you want to call it.

Trying to drive fast on US freeways, where no one practices lane discipline, is an exercise in frustration and futility anyway. That's why I set my cruise control at the speed limit, stay in the slow lane, and listen to podcasts. It's much more relaxing.

#1 shouldn’t people who choose to drive, need to pay attention, all around them? Na. What would happen if people stayed to the right on the highway? #2 why not build all vehicles to accelerate only fast enough, but slow enough to be environmentally friendly (sip fuel, and exhale so little fumes), then stop accelerating when the speed limits are met. As for braking, the automatic braking feature will be on permanently, and on the highest setting (keeping vehicles far apart), and only letting the brakes lightly and gently slow the vehicles (saves fuel, cutting emissions). #3 better than all this, let’s vote Mr. Spaghetti for president, and have “special licenses according to a individuals driving skill. Or make getting a license a little more difficult in the US?

  • Drift Taxi
    June 24, 2019

I still find it rather interesting that the better a driver a person is, the less they feel that they're an actual sound driver. Myself and several of my racing and drifting peers know are limitations and tend to drive within them. It's the Dunning-Kruger Effect. The more confident someone is behind the wheel, the less likely they actually have the skill to back that confidence.

Governors do not work get behind 18 wheeler in a passing lane and there comes a big mess because they cannot get out of the way when you need a power to go you need it let the driver make the decision if you want to place speed limiter on people should be within reason not like 18 wheels

Limiting speed is just a way to reduce engineering cost of the vehicles and thus saving money for car manufacturers and charge more to buyers
