  4. My understanding was that Mercedes Benz renamed their SUVs to indicate their relative sizes. The GLA small, GLC compact, GLE full size and GLS the largest. In the case of the GLE and GLS they are build on the same platform differing mainly in their length, mechanically they are the same. Only the GLA and GLC are built on the same platforms as the A and C class sedans.
