There's a small leather covered square box on the back of the passengers seat headrest. What is it for?
Beun007
Cool car!

Stick around kiddo and you might learn to judge a 30 year car by modern standards one day.!

Quality 6/10? Have a word!
Marcusjj1973
I absolutely loved these cars back in the day. The ultimate and most rare version if the RT Mulliner. It's a unearthly looking thing to behold.

imagine having a 6.75L turbocharged engine that makes as much horsepower as a naturally aspirated chrysler V6

Cant wait to drive this in Forza Horizon 4
Jaden Wright
That millennial joke though

Could you test the Version with the BOSCH carburetors? 1980 to 1986? That would be interesting…
TURBO R, not the Mulsanne – that is of poor power…
Or check the later version with the ZYTEC injection which has even more power and a much better fuel economy.
Different topic: One has to mention the temparature of the engine of the TURBO R. It is such a big, powerfull engine, one needs the air-conditioning because it reflecting heat is that high. 😉

Me: Thinks it's from the 70s
Doug: This is a 1990 Bentley Turbo R
Me: Uh?

Buy a house or a car. 30 years later the car is worth like 10k and the house atleast didn't go down and probably whent up like crazy.
John Mair
Sir you are not alone
Arun Kartha
I will buy this car over any modern car. This is real luxury.

1. That was during prehistoric times
2. "Technology"? That started in about 2010…
3. Back in prehistoric times with Jesus, the most "advanced" option was probably power mirrors, windows, door locks.
So of course they'd spend all their time and energy into other areas of the car
Josef Gordon
I'm sorry, I'm halfway paying attention but DID YOU SEE THAT ACCELERATOR PEDAL?! HOLY HECK!
John Bussiere
Doug, do you think the one you drove still has a 0-60 of 6.7 sec? that's not bad for such a huge car of the era!
Kearney Kaktus
Damn I wish more cars had that Lower/Upper Temperature split

$30K for a Bentley sounds like a bargain … until something breaks.
Be warned, the maintenance costs for this car are colossal if you maintain it properly. The good news is that Bentley still make spare parts for this (yes, 30 years on) but the bad news is that they're hideously expensive. That's before you factor in labour costs.
Insurance is another headache. People buying one of these cars with their eyes open, expect the insurance to be substantially more than the insurance for something like a Nissan Micra. But Americans probably aren't being asked to pay a four figure sum to insure a Nissan Micra, and are therefore starting from a lower base. Here in the UK, where insurance is utterly penal, even a Nissan Micra attracts silly premiums, and a Bentley Turbo R would cost as much as a small warship to insure. Even if you're not in the insurance premium hell that is the UK, expect insurance for this car to be fairly painful to endure.
Another factor to take into account – if you live in a city with congestion charges in force, they'll be expensive when applied to one of these. Take this car into central London, and the congestion charge will be eye watering. Do your research on congestion charges in big cities in North America, and add these to the ownership costs if you live near a congestion charge enforcement zone.
If in future, carbon taxes are levied in addition, this car will be in the super tax bracket.
My advice is to spend time becoming an accredited Bentley mechanic before taking this on. You'll save big money on your own purchase if you do, and you can finance your own purchase servicing others. 🙂
If you go into this with your eyes open,. knowing in advance that it's going to be a wallet melter par excellence, but you're prepared to live with that, you can have a lot of fun with one of these. Just make sure you are prepared for it to drain your bank account at a furious rate before diving in.

2:55 "This car has a remote key which would have been unheard of in 1990."
A £5000 Renault Clio and a ton of other cars had remote central locking in 1990. Mostly French.

12:35 So….. What the hell was the colour coded leather square on the back of the driver's headrest?
John Pick
This car and the Countach were the top of my auto bucket list back in the late 80's.
Buy lotsa mineral oil if you buy one !
Liberty&Nonintervention
This car is disgusting. So very naff.

One other thing of note . Windows don't go all the way down to prevent passengers from resting their arms on the wood trim .

Wish the steering wheel didn't have that cover kind of a buzz kill

Love Doug's Vids. I feel compelled to say that on both this vid and the RR Shadow vid that he failed to mention the self emptying ashtray!
Stephen Brookes
Bentley was bought by RR in 1931. VW bought Rolls Royce from Vickers, a nationalised former establishment engineering firm, in 1998. BMW sort of prised RR away from VW using the fact that they supplied the engines. So now it seems that when capitalism fails the Tory government nationalises (u turn) the capitalists favourite cars, whilst we plebs have to drive Austin Allegros, and even though we won the war and actually got VW started in the first place, they have the audacity to buy our national pride marque. Next thing you know the Indians will buy Jaguar and the Chinese will get hold of MG or similar such nonsense! Ummmm!

Stuffing the awards into a cheap cardboard box certainly complements the car ever so beautifully.

I have carefully observed you for the last 6 months and have never seen you wearing a mask. That pretty much tells me that you are a likely Trump supporter. Im unsubscribing.
