Good review but one thing to mention this is the same civic from 2 years ago nothing has changed an for $26k you can have a wrx at 268hp with awd so why not mention that with the overpriced underwhelming gti

holy heck I new the GTI was expensive, but it starts at like 28,595!! Okay I think I'll go slightly used Si cause I can't afford a GTI (and a used GTI is unreliable)

I'd still have to spend and extra 10K just to make it not look ugly. That back end is hideous.

Love the Braves cap!! For me, it will never matter that the Volkswagen is better because, like most Volkswagens, it's hideous. The Civic wins easily on that point alone; it's good looking.

The color grading on this video is top notch. Both subjects look excellent, I feel like the car wouldn't look as good in person.

Another 20hp and this thing would be a beast for under $30k

I actually own a 2017 GTI Sport and a 2019 SI. The SIs chassis is amazing and really shines in the twisties or on the track. GTI Is more on the comfort side even though it’s fun as well in the canyon. The DSG transmission is amazing and the golf r brakes my model comes with is phenomenal. One thing where the civic si absolutely destroys the GTI is in MPG. The SI avgs almost 10mpg more overall.

They should have put a turbo on the k24 engine. Giving it horse power around the focus st horse power range

  • Love the Si. I just did a review on the Coupe Si. 👍

It's too bad that Honda decided to abandon cleanly designed hatchbacks in favor of bat windged hamburger snatchers. For several decades I bought nothing but Civic hatchbacks, but the stuff they're making now is just hideous. Great engineering, but it seems that they walked away from anything other than the teen market. Oh, and they're not electric. Much sound a fury signifying not much.

I own both cars, same model year 2018. GTI is a better daily driving car, the steering wheel and infotainment system are way better than the si. Si is more engaging to drive when you have summer tires, turning sharp corners at 80 km/h with high rev is just fun as hell. The rev hang in the si is my biggest complaint of the car…

I would have like to have seen this in the hatch body style. Nice looking car though. And the lsd and adaptive suspension make it a bargain.

I've heard the crash mitigation on the 2020 is not very good and can be dangerous. Get 2019 if you can until a work around is found.

I have one of these in the dark grey (“Modern Steel Metallic”) color. At 2,700 miles in, I really like it. No buyer’s remorse. I could have swung for something different that would have cost more, but for me, the overall value of the Si is very compelling for all of the reasons this video and the several others like it state. Rev hang isn’t a big deal, and the safety suite hasn’t over-reacted as some other reviewers have experienced. So my advice is that if you’re thinking about this car, go drive it, and see what you think for yourself. My guess is that you’ll be glad you did.

Does it run on regular gas or does it need premium grade?
And does it come with a spare tire?

Spot-on! I just bought the 2020 Si, and I love it. I had the 2011 GTI, and it was great, but this car is fantastic for the price. I really enjoy your reviews.

If the car is manual it should come with a hand brake. Living in SF. Hills are steep, and traffic is terrible.

Excellent review. Concise, to the point, and addresses all the questions of someone who wants to know how this car drives. I have a 2020 SI in white, and I actually agree with everything the reviewer says, except that I really don't feel like the interior of the VW is more premium. I prefer the ergonomics of Hondas to Volkswagon. I highly recommend this car both as a daily driver and an enthusiast's ride.

I went with the MK7 GTi Performance Package when I was shopping at the time. I still haven’t regretted. I’m not stage 2 and did suspension, tire upgrade. The Si sounds faster on paper with higher numbers but the GTi is a lot better of a daily driver. Si is good if your younger. GTi interior is also a lot nicer. It’s a lot more mature.

The Honda is more reliable than the GTI and higher resale value.
