The Dodge Neon SRT-4 Was a Cheap, Fast 2000s Icon

The Dodge Neon SRT-4 was cheap speed — and it was an icon of its era. Today I’m reviewing an SRT-4 ACR to show you what made the SRT-4 special, and I’m going to show you all the quirks and features of the Neon SRT-4. Then I’m going to drive the Dodge Neon SRT-4 and show you what it’s like on the road.

Seems like Doug is getting less and less willing to give cars low ratings when they deserve it. If a 15 year old Neon doesn't deserve a low Quality score then I don't know what does. This is one of the worst eras for one of the least reliable major car brands of all time. Yeah it is better quality than an 80s Lotus, but 5 is supposed to be average.

That being said, if it had come from a brand without the horrible reputation I would have loved to have had one of these. I'm personally willing to ditch a few frivolous features if I can get more power and better handling for not much money. On the other hand, that's why I always buy used cars.

A lot of the negative asthetic points are to save substantial weight. Screws not covered. Cheap plastic interior peeices that snapped together without screws. Rear manual windows. Rear bumber clips not covered. No trunk liner. All of that adds up to a lot less weight and cost too!…. Then they added a 12 inch Kicker and wasted all of the weight they saved.

Yeah a 40 year old neighbor had one of these 10 years ago. Modded the hell out of it and it was fun. Sold it to the high school kid down the street and wrapped it around a tree a few months later. It served its purpose. I would kind of like to add this to a collection of rag tag cars if I had the room.

Love my skittle. 05 w/ 100k miles. 110% stock besides BC coilovers. Not even a stereo or tint. I’m leaving my gem the way it rolled out the factory. RIP Andrew (hybridkid), first SRT4 owner to be fatally claimed by its speed.

Your HP numbers are wrong. SRT4’s we’re putting down 220-244whp stock. Dodge underrated the power figures for insurance purposes. They knew young people would get slaughtered by insurance companies with expensive policies.
