Here Are the Cars I Considered When I Bought My Kia Stinger

As you know, I bought a Kia Stinger. Here are the cars Doug DeMuro considered before I bought a Kia Stinger.

Wait so he basically only considered a Tesla?

You’d have to have some pretty f-ed up priorities if you try to buy a Tesla or some other fancy car while still living in an apartment

I won't consider an electric vehicle until it can refuel from empty to full as fast as a gasoline vehicle. I'm a commuter. I drive a minimum of a hundred miles a day. Because of the size gas tank that's in my Genesis G70, I refuel every 3 days. My Hyundai Azera, I refueled every 4 days.
I know eventually they (manufacturers) will get there.

We need a Doug DeMuro home tour. If we all thought he was rich, but he's living in an area where it's common to have garages open into alleys… as a small town American, I need to see this for myself.

The new RAV4 has both auto trans and full radar adaptive cruise control. Well under $40K, too. My nicely equipped 2020 XLE with the convenience and weather packages was right at $35K. Great comfortable and highly practical/useful vehicle.

So, if you wouldn't boot one of those cars out of your garage for a Tesla, where do you park your AMG wagon, Stinger, Defender and everything else you currently have right now? Seems like most people would prefer to have their daily driver in their garage for ease of access every day and I highly doubt you daily drive either of those.

I looked at a Kia Stinger a couple of years ago, but the entry-level vehicle (at least the 2018 model) felt slow and huge. I wasn’t in a position to get one of the more powerful, GT-level Stingers, but the entry-level one turned me off on the car.

I actually test drove an Optima immediately after driving the Stinger and thought the Optima felt more responsive and smaller (despite being less powerful and larger). I’m up for a new car in the next 6 months, so maybe it’s time to check out the Stinger GT again.

I get the KIA buy, smart – good car for good money! But I'm kind of baffled by how you see EVs. I've owned a tesla for 6 months now, the reason for me is not "oh I can spend money to charge my car at home" but it's "oh, I never have to spend money on gas/electricity again" as my car has free supercharging. You have an interesting view there, not inherently wrong – just entirely different from any Tesla driver I encountered at a charger and so on.

After you drive the all new 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost you will want one so bad…
It feels like your flying a plane very close to the ground so ride quality is second to none now ! This is one of the quietest Rolls Royce's too !

If I were in your shoes, I would’ve chose the 2020 Toyota Camry TRD, because it does in-fact have cruise control and it is automatic. I would choose it because it’s really practical and useful, and it’s also a kind of sport car which will be the fun of that car also, and it’s pretty cheap, the MSRP is like 22,000 I think.

Stinger is way too floaty. Cornering is it's Achilles heal. A 3rd gen Acura TL SH-AWD kills the Stinger in handling. I bought a 2020 GT2. Acura gave up six years ago and KIA is swinging hard. If they can get the Stinger more planted and less comfy in the suspension they will have something great, instead of just very good.

1000%, Doug. If I could have a cushy EV with adaptive cruise for a daily I would be delighted. Then I could really enjoy my bananas hardcore sports car on weekends!
