The Toyota RAV4 Prime can go *how far* on a charge?!

This plug-in hybrid crossover SUV is not only responsive and refined, it’s super-efficient as well, offering impressive electric-only range. Of course, once that big, bad battery pack is depleted, you can still drive around because this Toyota also features a gasoline engine. Really, it’s the best of both worlds.

Don’t believe that gasoline-electric vehicles are anything but boring and slow? Well, it’s time to change your tune, because the RAV4 Prime is the second-quickest Toyota after the Supra sports car. With 302 horsepower on tap, this plug-in hybrid SUV can zip from a standstill to 60 mph in as little as 5.7 seconds, a time that is legitimately swift. And thanks to ample low-end electric torque, it feels even fleeter.

"Really, it’s the best of both worlds."
Is it though? I 'd love to see a comparison between this and the Tesla Model Y

2.5 L engine and THREE motors plus batteries. I'm surprised it's "only" 4,300 lbs.

Toyota needs to go all in on electric vehicles.
PHEV's were fine 5 years ago but now they are out dated.
Gas and diesel engines are old polluting technology and need to go away.
There is a climate Crisis. The sooner we deal with it the better / cheaper it will be for us all.

45 miles is pretty good. $50k is not so good. Can't I get an MDX Super hybrid around that value?

Toyota is only going to make 20,000 of these, globally. This will unlikely be the new normal top seller as it'll cannibalise regular hybrid sales, much like the Prius Prime did.

The performance in EV mode is pretty sedate with a 0 to 60 of over 9 secs. Not really worthy of a 40k vehicle in my mind.

Be aware that in order to have the 6.6kWh charger you must first buy the top model, then you have to add a $5,700 options package. The combination is more than $10,000 over the base model.

This will be 10k over MSRP until 2021. Even with the just-god-awful build quality, you're probably better off getting a Model Y.

Every dealer I’ve called has said you’d be lucky to get it outside of California in 2021. Covid-19 delays have hurt delivery, but the “arriving in all 50 states this month” just isn’t the reality.

$50k for a RAV4? FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS…for a RAV4? I mean, just get a 6 year old Landcruiser that's barely broken in and pocket the change. Or at least that's what I would do if I needed an SUV.
