Honda Civic Type R vs MINI John Cooper Works GP: 0-60, Price, Specs, Interior & More

Read the full comparison: https://edmu.in/32KL1Sw

In this comparison, Alistair Weaver pits the two hottest hatchbacks you can get against each other: the Mini John Cooper Works GP and the Honda Civic Type R. Both of these front-drive rockets cost near $40,000 and have performance (and wings) to match. In this video we’ll find which one is the best, and which one is a bit too spicy.

Honest great review, the GP is good on the paper and doesn't perform on the road, big marketing fake, TypeR is heavy but performs much better, test a CTC tuned Swift next time, please!!

The pricing on the Mini is ludicrous. For 8K less, you can get the Civic Type R or for about the same money as the Mini, you could get a BMW M240i, which is also a way better drive. Either way, you'd be better off with the alternative.

This review starts off by saying that both cars are “uncompromised in their pursuit of performance,” then spends the rest of the show telling us how much the Mini IS compromised.

I'm sorry, but something is not right here. That Civic has a bad clutch master cylinder clearly, causing very slow shifts, you even mention it at 5:17. Here's the issue, the weight is 2884 vs 3107, doing a quick study/search on the net, the power is 261whp, and 290whp (hp to the wheels on a dyno, real test). The torque readings are almost identical to the wheels, no point in mentioning curves and peak. If you do a calculation of power to weight ratio, the Type-R wins.

I really wanted to believe you that there was indeed a faster car, but the Type-R is actually faster if not flawed by it's faulty garbage clutch master cylinder THAT HONDA CLEARLY KNOWS ABOUT FOR NEARLY 20years (2001model year being the first year of its use in DC5 Type-R)! I prefer the Mini on the sole basis that Honda is just plain garbage in regards to customer treatment, honesty, and integrity.

My choice is the Mini. Honda can kiss my assets for how poorly they treat their customers.

Side Note: If you don't believe me on Honda and the Clutch Master Cylinder, just look up any performance Honda/Acura with a Manual since 2006 (all Hondas went to it then, some switched over as early as 2001) and repeatedly after digging, you will find the same issue repeatedly, including the Type-R

Try driving the GP3 correctly and maybe you’ll find it’s better and more fun than the Civic. Civic’s are a dime a dozen. You appear to intentionally want to hate the MINI.

You may notice that most performance oriented cars have the red, orange, or yellow seat belts. You don't see them in your grandma cars or luxury cars. Their purpose is to let the "do right boys", at a glance, see that you have your seat belt on.

I purchased the GP3 a few days ago and really love it. These reviewers push the car to the limits and nitpick them to death. Get the Honda if you like the angular Japanese look and get the GP3 if you want the European look. Trust me, the GP3 hauls ass and is tight through the twisties. It requires 2 hands on the wheel with full attention. That is what I wanted and the GP3 delivers. It rides on rails.

The Type R is a completely different class car, I don't understand why you'd be comparing the two anyway? Just review each on their merits. On the next episode maybe test the Type R against a Nissan GTR…. 🤣

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 TYPE R king 👑 if this car is not worth a lot I’m the future as a collectable then the world is mad , this car should go down in History as the car that gave Honda another life . Honda should stop production soon and let retire as a legend

The fact is the Honda is a designed Road usable and practical track weapon designed by very competent engineers improving things all the time. I was a fan of the original mini never really been that impressed with the new ones, the original Cooper Works was better Madness is just a marketing tool and it's a two-seater for God's sake, that's not a comparison with Honda which is a 4-door hatchback, the fact is if Honda brought out a Honda Jazz Type R it would kick the Minis ass as well. Other reports have ever had from mechanics as well is the Minis not that reliable and tried to squeeze too much under the bonnet with cheap parts, Honda does not have that issue.

After test driving both – spot in review!👏👏👏 One can discuss design and visual taste but that aside, the Honda murders the Mini GP in basically every aspect that matters to Driving Enthusiasts! I still added a JCW this week to my garage – just because it’s a Mini (of course with a manual!)
