FIRST DRIVE: New VW Golf GTI Mk8 2020: In Detail, Interior, Full Driving Review (4K) | Top Gear

The new eighth-generation GTI has landed and Top Gear’s got its hands on one. It has an angrier face and the new interior has an allergy to buttons, but on paper it has a lot in common with the last one. We head to the Anglesey track to see if there’s any revelations in the corners and new magic in the chassis. Is VW’s new hot hatch really as sensible as it looks?

Do you think the GTI's still good value? Or for that money do you want the extra ponies from Honda and Renault?

    To Whom It May Concern:

    VolksWegon complains
As a customer and owner of Tiguan 2.0 TSI Volkswagen (WVGZZZ5NZCW043110)a very much well recognised brand globally, here I would like to declare my unsatisfaction of the quality of your vehicle parts and specialisation. I have gone through this endless nightmare for the past 4 years and regret buying a car from Volkswagen. For all the complaints I have made, there were only  temporary solutions. The authorised dealers are all keenly busy to sell the parts but do not rectify the real problem faced. 4 years I have been complaining about engine check lights popping up, reverse camera error, Bluetooth error, engine ignition issues, noises from engine, start-up trouble and many more. Volkswagen authorised dealer is only busy changing the parts 1 by 1 and no permanent solution to my problems. Many parts and sensors have been changed again lately, but eventually after a consultation, it's an "Instrument Cluster" fault as a gateway to most of the electronic function which is causing trouble as a silent killer from the day one of my complaints. My Tiguan is well maintained according to the book of service. To my understanding and fellow Volkswagen users globally this is not a common issue and Volkswagen must take the full responsibility for this " Meter " instruments cluster malfunction as this is based on a manufacturing default. It has cost me a lot of my time and hard earned money which has been wasted at your authorised service centre. Compared to the maintenance cost of many other cars, yes, a Volkswagen car is expensive to maintain. This is mainly due to the expensive German parts of the car and due to the high quality fit and finish the car provides. However that does not mean the customer should be left high and dry with a defective product. I feel like I spend more time at your service centre than I do at work or at home. I'm at my wit's end everytime my vehicle is back to the dealership for repairs required because of the malfunction.

The front of the mk8 GTi has grown on me – it's like a more modern MK4. But those five dotted foglights, they look uninspiring

How much oil does the engine burn every 1000km?

  • just shocking to see the Manual Transmission, coming from a country where MT is non existent in the VW lineup

Its becoming more apparent that car manufacturers will eventually forget the older crowd to cater to the younger generations. They are moving in the all digital direction that Tesla and others went to. I'll take analog gauges and buttons over these digital screens every single time. I love my MK5.

GTI MkWoke. The new design is Dogshit. They're trying to make GTI a family car. Get a Tiguan, lose the 2 extra doors and get your grove back VW.

This train wreck of a redesign is really because ONLY the enthusiasts are left, and we don't count as a subgroup. The remaining don't drive stick, would rather tweet while driving, and think spirited driving is "toxic".

Let's sum up: uglier exterior, less-functional interior, no powertrain improvements. I'm gonna buy a MK 7.5 Golf R manual — sure to become a collectible, since the next R won't offer a manual.

Less buttons feels like they just make things overly complicated for the simple things
