The 8 most high-tech cars ever… That arrived too early!

On the lookout for your next car? Head to to find the right car from the right dealer, at the right price.

We know that more often than not, car manufacturers don’t want to take too many risks. Given the sky-high costs that go into designing a new car, through to testing and finally manufacturing, it’s no surprise they often stick to a tried & tested design.

But that’s not to say manufacturers have always played it safe, and we’re here to reveal the top cars that were well ahead of their time! From Lamborghini’s first SUV from the 1980s through to the first four-wheel-drive supercar, Mat’s here to reveal the top cars that manufacturers truly took some risks on when it came to trying to bring new technology to the automotive industry!

But what do you think – is this the definitive list of cars that were ahead of their time? Or have we missed any? Let us know in the comments!

    1.Aston-Martin Lagonda

Definitely ahead of its time and the interior displays did work, although the touch-sensitive panels on early cars were less successful. Very popular in the Middle East, and still a design icon.

    2.GM EV-1

Ahead of its time, although the styling was controversial. Probably pulled for battery, cost and maintenance reasons, although plenty of conspiracy theories abound. Only leased in California.

    3.Audi A2

Unique, but not a real trendsetter. Interestingly, the bonnet only exposed the oil filler. Too expensive and quirky to be successful, much like the Smart.

    4.Rover Streetwise

Ahead of its time as a crossover, although the Matra-Simca Rancho of 1977 was even earlier.

    5.Pontiac Aztek

Hmm–I guess it was an early crossover SUV coupe, but it was even uglier than the modern ones and that's saying a lot.

    6.Lamborghini LM-002

Ahead of its time. Lambo was originally hoping to sell these to the Italian military but it ended up being another Middle East favorite. Saddam's sons had examples.

    7.Tucker Torpedo

A very controversial car. It had some advanced features, but it also had features, such as a huge rear engine, that no modern car would ever use. The company was also run in an unethical way and was closed as a stock scam, with many deposits taken but only a few prototypes ever delivered. Another favorite for conspiracy theorists, but it is doubtful that it would have succeeded.

    8.Porsche 959

A fairly advanced hypercar, with some features that were unique for the time.

    9 Citroen DS-21

Should be #1 on the list. The most advanced, comfortable and stylish luxury car ever built. Sold for 20 years and still iconic.

The original A2 was just too expensive to build given the production technology of the time and the near-exclusive use of aluminum for the body structure. If we were to build an A2 today, it wouldn't be so weird-looking and would likely be a mix of aluminum and high-strength steel for the structure.

Starting to think that car journos are the same as game journos. Out of touch with the trade and we never true enthusiast. Electric cars were the very first cars… They put electric engines on horse carriages.

Even before EV1 was made there were so many electric cars was designed but Oil lobbyists have so much power to kill the projects even before they introduce. GM just gamble with EV1 and lost the game back then. After while the oil prices start rising they start satisfying with the money they make and let them produce electric cars. The train start moving so it will be hard to stop it
