If you have bolts, get a ‘wheel hanger’ to help align the tire with the wheel hub bolt holes- really helpful!

I feel like changing a flat, checking the oil, and jump starting a car should be at least discussed in drivers training.

I dispatched roadside assistance to people all over the country, a good 18 years ago. One call came in with the service provider's dispatcher laughing her ass off, about her injured wrecker driver. Apparently, after or in the process of pulling the flat tire off a customer's tire, the jack failed, sending the tire or brake onto the guy's crotch. The guy did manage to complete the service call but went to the emergency room shortly thereafter to save his manhood.

You will always have more leverage pulling up, rather than pushing down to break lugs loose. Just make sure you're pulling up with your legs, not your back. Also, if you find that you can't pull the wheel free easily, you can sit on the ground and kick the outer edge of the rim, right next to the tire, with the heel of your foot. A few good kicks is usually all it will take to break stubborn rim free. BE MINDFUL OF THE JACK MOVEMENT WHILE YOU DO IT! Lastly, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tighten the lugs in the pattern TWICE. If you have any wheel movement between tightening the first lug and the last, the first one will be loose again.

I'm 34 and never changed a tire in my whole life. Only ever had two issues with my tires, first one was back in 2016 with my 2001 car, was driving at night and hit a pothole the tire exploded, thankfully I was doing just 40 MPH so I was able to safely pull to the side of the road, the car had a spare tire but it is the original one from when the car was made so it's 15 years old, no good, they say you shouldn't use tires that are more than 7 years old even if they're never used so I just had the tow service take it to a tire shop.

Second issue was just two weeks ago actually in my second car which I bought new in 2017, woke up to one of tires had lost about 10 psi, didn't think much of it so I put air in it and drove to work, later that day it went flat again, I just inflated it and drove to a tire shop, I had them replace all tires because at this point I had more than 48k miles on them anyways so it was about that time.

It’s amazing that we have to teach people how to change a tire via the Internet. We were taught how at 16…. with that said, always enjoy a Cooley video.

Get a Folding Lug Wrench / 4-Way Cross Wrench. If some moron with an air wrench over tightened your lug nuts you will need a foot & a hand to break them loose.
