The shifter he mentioned as being unique, is basically the same as every Toyota Prius since 2004. I'm pretty sure this is based on the Lexus LS or LC. Probably why there is a big Center hump in the floor because the chassis is from a front engine rear wheel drive vehicle.
The back seat space definitely seems a bit laughable, even the proportions of the car looking from the side the front end seems incredibly long relative to the rest of the car.
Might be interesting to see if the previous generation which looked like a Prius might actually have better interior space and practicality.

Doug can you find a Honda FCX? Pretty sure it was the first hydrogen car released for road use. I believe you could only lease them but I’m pretty sure it was in California. Honda had many firsts here in the states for green cars. First hybrid and first hydrogen powered. A lot of people don’t even know about them.

This review of yours tells me that Toyota is still treating the fuel cell option as somewhat experimental. The moment they stop doing this, you'll see them wheel out a much more polished and integrated model. Toyota also seems to be hedging its bets as to which alternative propulsion system will win out in the marketplace, once a full-bore migration away from fossil fuels takes place, and wants to have as many options on the starting line ready to build upon, the moment the appropriate signals are observed.
Of course, hydrogen has some, shall we call them, issues logistically, even before we start factoring into the equation the well-known hazards. Some of those issues, and for that matter, some of the hazards, might be mitigated in the future by the use of solid hydrides, which will be a lot easier to transport and manipulate than the elemental gas. But if enough money ends up flowing to the hydrogen option, Toyota will be placed to leapfrog against less well prepared competitors.
Now if someone can solve the problem of making the fuel cell operate directly from solid hydrides, that would make this option a LOT more viable. Though pouring powder into your fuel tank might take some getting used to … 🙂
